Grimes Family Values: A Walking Dead Podcast

Karen and Jamie recap and review the last two episodes of the fifth season of The Walking Dead. They share there likes and dislikes about the season as a whole and predictions they have for the forth coming sixth season.

Well week took last week off because Jamie was in need of a vacation, but we return this week to talk to you about Forget and Spend episodes 13 and 14 of The Walking Dead. Fortunately with the week off our podcast numbers will now be in line with the episode numbers for this season. So the let's start off with talking about Forget.

The Walking Dead has reached that point in the season when it has to start setting up the new story arc that will come to a close during the first half of the sixth season. In Remember Rick and the group have had their time to process the events of Terminus, the hospital, and being out on the road so now the plot can start to move on and story can be told. The story for the last five episodes of season five looks like it will be the crew getting used to life in a new community that is safe. Unlike Woodberry and Terminus this new community is run by a woman, Deanna Monroe, an ex-Congresswoman. She welcomes the group by giving them two homes that they can stay in while exploring and figuring out where they fit, in this community. Deanna also interviews each member of the group, we see through a series of cut aways, in order to feel them out and determine what job she should assign everyone. The Walking Dead - S5E11 - The Distance Mary and Jamie both agreed that this episode was way better than the last two episodes. Jamie still has his misgivings about where the second half of season five is headed. They also have a debate about whether Rick is the true villian of the show, a position that Jamie is firmly against. In episode eleven of The Walking Dead season five, The Distance, the group takes Aaron the stranger from the end of the last episode hostage. It's apparent that Rick has lost all faith in humanity and his level of trust for anyone outside of the group is pretty much non-existent. Mary and Jamie didn't quite like this episode and didn't have much to say about it. We why below and then listen to the podcast. This week Rick on The Walking Dead S5E10, Them, the gang were all together trying to make their way to Washington DC. They found themselves out of gas literally and figuratively. Struggling to get by without food or water proved a major challenge for Sasha, Daryl, and Maggie. All three of them having recently lost someone close to them they didn't find much worth living for anymore. The group was walking for day and days and as painful as it was for them it was just as painful for the audience because it was boring. You know something is wrong when the most excitement you get is a thunderstorm passes through and the group is forced to find refuge in a barn that Daryl had found earlier. In episode nine of season 5 we see Rick, Michonne, Noah, Tyreese, and Glenn make there way into the walled community that Noah grew up in before the change. Apparently the group has been on the road a while as they are now ouside of Richmond and no longer in Georgia(YAY!!)

The Walking Dead - Consumed Mary and Jamie discuss the theme of this week's Walking Dead, which is rebirth by fire.  There were many instances of fire as Daryl and Carol head into Atlanta during their search for Beth.  This episode focused on where Carol and Daryl have come and where they are going both literally and figuratively.  Jamie and Mary both agree that even though Consumed was as uneventful as the last episode, Self-Help, it was one of the best of the season.  Mary expresses her wish for Carol and Daryl to hook up and Jamie emphatically disagrees.   Jamie thinks Beth and Daryl should hook up while Mary thinks it would be more age appropriate for Carl and Daryl to "knock boots." Besides talking about this episode of The Walking Dead the live audience learned that Mary is a survivalist with weapons, ammo, and years worth of food.  Watch out blind a deaf children Mary is coming for you and everyone else Mary is going force you to procreate for food in the event of the zombie apocalypse. The Walking Dead - Self-Help Not much happened this week as we checked in with the group that headed off to DC.  We learn more about Abraham through a series of flashbacks that gives us some insight about why he is so determined to make it to DC.  Jamie and Mary both felt that this was an uneventful, filler episode. The great thing about this podcast is that we learn of Mary's plan to take out deaf and blind children in the event of a zombie apocalypse. The Walking Dead - Slabtown Mary and Jamie talk about what's been going on with Beth since her kidnapping at the end of last season.  She's been kept in a hospital run by some "bad cops" in downtown Atlanta where she is a captive since the more resources she uses the more work she owes them.  She does grow a backbone and helps a new friend Noah make his way out of the fortress of doom. The Walking Dead - Four Walls & a Roof This week Jamie and Mary share their reaction to the Bob-B-Q and the survivors exacting their revenge on the "Termites."  They both loved the ambush that Rick and his crew planned to lure in the "Termites" and finally be done with them once and for all.  Jamie felt that the theme this week was that you are either like Rick & Carol or you are not, which could be why the group split up at the end of the episode. The Walking Dead - Strangers This week Jamie and mary continue their Second Course/TVFishbowl collaboration by discussing The Walking Dead S5E2, Strangers.  They dissect the theme of this episode which was forgiveness.  Rick and Carol have a heart to heart as Rick atones for banishing Carol from the prison.  Tara needs to tell Maggie that she was there with the Governor before the attack on the prison and explains that she has no idea who the Governor was or what he was capable of doing.  Mary and Jamie both felt this was an episode in which the group needed to take stock and come back together before heading off to DC which is Abraham so desperately wants.  They also have a pretty amusing discussion of their favorite water-logged zombie kill. The Walking Dead - No Sanctuary This is the first episode in a collaboration between TVFishbowl and Second Course Podcast.  Jamie teamed up with TVfishbowl contributor Mary to launch Grimes Family Values a weekly live podcast recapping the newest episode of The Walking Dead.  Jamie and Mary breakdown what both of them feel is quite possibly the best Walking Dead episode ever, No Sanctuary.  Listen as they discuss their reactions to the triumphant return of this AMC hit show.  They cover the groups rescue by Carol and the bloody events that take place in the wake of our favorite survivors escape from the cannibal encampment, Terminus.  Mary and Jamie both agree that Rick has finally come around to Carol's way of thinking and discuss how this transition could end up being a theme for the rest of the season.
